Trust the Lord Completely

If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself.    Proverbs 3:4-5 TLB

When I read these two verses, two words stood out to me: if and then. I always pay close attention in the scriptures when I see these words because they tell me that if I want God to do something for me, there is something I need to do.

So the “if” tells me what I want. And I surely want favor with God and man, a reputation for good judgment and common sense.  Then I have to trust the Lord completely and under no circumstances must I trust myself. That sounds easy enough, but is it really something easy? So what does it mean to trust? The dictionary says that trust means, “to believe in the reliability of,” so when we trust in the Lord we are saying we have belief in the character of God.

So we can trust in the Lord. In the absence of a history with Him we can trust in his reliability.  When we look at creation and the order in nature we know he is reliable. So whatever is facing us today we can stand firm and trust in the Lord. As we trust Him we bring Him into our situation. We don’t have to worry that He might mess it up. In reality the reverse is true. If we leave Him out we would definitely create a mess.  So we want favor and a good reputation, we have to trust in God.

Thought for Today: I need to trust the Lord completely.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory

  1. After reading this I am reminded of the scripture Proverbs 3/5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Trusting in God, I can not rely on my might or my knowledge. Thank God for his infinite wisdom.
