Becoming an Overcomer

So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Romans 6:11-12 NLT

Paul wrote many letters and was a great inspiration to the churches in his time. In this letter to the Romans, he gave them some principles to help them in their Christian walk. He told them that they should consider themselves dead to the power of sin. So how can that be?  Well in verse 5 he said, “Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.” Death speaks about the end of life. So when you are dead with Him; I’m not talking about being physically dead, but dead to the ability of sin to dominate your life.

“We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him.”  verse 9.  Since we are untied with him in His death then if we stay connected to Him, sin will have no power over us. When the power of sin has been neutralized by our union with Christ then we can live in a manner where sin does not control us and we don’t have to yield to the sinful desires of the flesh.  For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin,” verse 7.

Thought for Today: Don’t give sin the opportunity to rule over your life.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
