Taking Control

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. Romans 8:6 NLT

One of the byproducts of spring is weeds! They are everywhere! They invade the lawn and garden bed. If you are unable to devote the time that’s needed to maintain your garden, don’t plant anything because the weeds will choke the life out of your plants. They behave the same way in the lawn; when they get in they don’t want to leave. So do you allow the weeds to prevent you from having a garden? Certainly not! You have to choose; do you want a beautiful garden or do you want to look at disgusting weeds all summer? As one of my friends would say, “Weeds are like the devil; you have to keep resisting.”

Well your sinful nature is like weeds in the garden. They will fight you tooth and nail to have their own way. So how do you resist the weeds that are fighting to take control of your life? Your sinful nature is like weeds in the garden of your life. They don’t have the final say. In the month of April, you need to add weed and feed to the lawn. The Bible is the weed and feed you need in your life. It will feed your mind on the Word of God. The Word will provide all you need to resist the enemy. It will provide strength in weakness; the Word will also give you the power to stand in your day of temptation. The Word of God feeds the inner man while it starves your sinful nature.

Some weeds are extremely stubborn; they refuse to leave. They have a tap root and that tap root is a problem. Sometimes you pull at the weed and you only get part of the root. You smile and you say, “Yes, I got it!” The same thing happens to the weeds that lurk in your life; they don’t leave that easily. You are caught unawares when that weed pushes up its ugly head. Now is the time to bring out your exceptional weed fighting equipment. “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7. If you are having difficulty resisting, humble yourself before God. That is the secret weapon if you want to reap life and peace.
