Seek My Face

When You said, “Seek My face [in prayer, require My presence as your greatest need],” my heart said to You, “Your face, O Lord, I will seek [on the authority of Your word].” Psalm 27:8 AMP

In any project you have to accumulate the items that you need. Some things are easily found or a substitute is readily available. Then, there are other items that are not so easy to find. You have to search high and low because it could be that item is necessary for the success of your project. When you find yourself in that position, you begin an intense search and you will not stop until you find it.

In this verse, David heard God speaking to him; He wanted David to seek His face. The dictionary defines seek as to go in search of. To seek God’s face is to desire, to turn the direction of thought and will and affection to Him.   The face of God is the side of the divine nature which is turned to man. So when we seek the face of God, we are turning our desires towards Him. Psalm 14:2 NLT says, “The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.” You see. God desires for us to seek after Him. Unfortunately, like Martha, many of us are distracted by the things of this world and so we cannot make time in our busy schedules to seek God.

Jehoshaphat sought the face of God when he found himself in great danger. 2 Chronicles 20:3-4 NLT says, Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help.” It was an urgent situation but Jehoshaphat understood that only God had the power to make a difference. So he didn’t seek God alone, he ordered everyone to seek God.

I wonder how that situation would play out in our modern society; we have become a people of rights. We have the right to order our own lives and we will not allow anyone to tell us what to do. Jehoshaphat had the burden of leadership and the safety and welfare of the citizens were on his shoulder. He led by example and sought the Lord, and then God responded, Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” God responds when we seek Him.

Thought for Today: Friend, take time to seek God.

Have a great day and walk in faith and victory.

    1. I needed this. God came to me as he does from time to time, and simply said to seek his face. I am in a downward heartfelt spiraling fall that only God can rescue me from, I am meant to share the word, as I’ve done behind prison walls once before for two years, but the world and it’s pulls are a constant battle for me. Pray that I can defend myself, me family, and those I am able to reach from what ever ails them. I love God so much, in your prayers maybe tell him I said so.
