Obey and Succeed

It’s not always easy to do what is right. It’s easy when you are in the company of people who are willing to do what you are doing but when you are all alone, it’s not so easy to be the Lone Ranger. Have you ever had to make the decision to stand alone or join in with the crowd?

There is an account of a young man in the Bible who had to make that decision. He was in a foreign place where it was  not so easy to live by the word of God, but this young man made a choice, and he was not afraid to speak up and say no. That young man was Daniel.  You might be thinking  that was no big deal, but it was. Daniel was living in exile at this time, subject to the rule of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.  The king  wanted them to be trained in the culture of Babylon and the king assigned the best for them to eat.

Daniel was a Hebrew, and he knew God’s Law. But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods. (Daniel 1:8 NLT) The desire to obey began in his heart and God gave Daniel favor and so he was able to reason with the chief of staff and they conducted an experiment. Daniel and his friends ate vegetables and water while the others ate the best of the king’s table. The result:  Daniel and his friends looked better.

We have the same choice today. There are all sorts of things at this world’s table. Things that promise success and wealth. But we must decide, are we going to obey God or drink the wine of the world. We do not have to look to the world’s table for our success because true success comes from God. Deuteronomy 8:18a AMP says, But you shall remember [with profound respect] the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth.  Obedience brings success.

Thought for Today: Friend, don’t defile yourself.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
