“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT
One of the definitions for peace is a quiet and calm state of mind. Jesus said He is gifting that quiet and calm state of mind to us. In the world we have troubles, turmoil, distress and the list goes on. So how does this peace manifest itself in our lives? Paul tells us in Galatians 5.22, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” The Holy Spirit working in our lives produces peace.
Yet peace is not passive. We have to actively peruse peace. Psalm 34:14 says, “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” We have to work to live in peace and harmony with others. There is a blessing for those who seek peace. Jesus said in Matthew 5.9, “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”
Like in everything else, God has His part and we have our part. We have to search to find peace then do all in our power to maintain that peace with those around us. This is the way to live a peaceful life in spite of all the issues and difficulties that come our way.
Thought for Today: Peace requires work.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
