What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31 NLT
Children at play can be a source of amusement. Even when they are very young, they form alliances that govern how they interact on the playground. If a new child enters the community, there might be a shift in influence. It might be long term or a short term shift. The child with influence controls the environment. That child, if not adequately supervised, will control everyone on the playground. Little children understand the politics of the playground. They will do all they can to stay in the good graces of the child of influence. Then, there is that one child, who doesn’t conform, and sets his or her own pace. That child does not fear the influencer; sometimes the influencer fears that child. Now, if you can become best friends with that child, then you will no longer afraid of the influencer.
In much the same way Paul is saying, if you, like the child on the playground, becomes connected to God, there is no one that can stand against you. To show how much God cares, Paul goes on to say, “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” Imagine God allowed His Son to die to redeem sinful man. After such an unselfish act, this powerful God who is on your side, will never leave you or forsake you.
This speaks of confidence in God; the child on the playground would not back down from the influencer, because he knows that his friend has his back. When God is with you, you can display that same confidence in God. David said in Psalm 3:6, “I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side.” David’s confidence was not in his army, but in God. When God is on your side there is no battle to fierce; no enemy too powerful; no situation too impossible that God can’t handle. So look the enemy in the face and let him know that he has to go through God to get to you.
