A Tower of Strength

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. Proverbs 18:10 NLT

This verse was the inspiration for a song I love to sing. It’s a song of praise and worship that you can find on YouTube. However, I will share a bit of the lyrics with you.

“Blessed be the name of the Lord Most High
The name of the Lord is a strong tower
The righteous run into it and they are saved.”

When I think about the words in this verse, I don’t think about Solomon, I think about his father, King David. This was the story of his life. He faced many challenges but he knew from his experiences that there is safety in the name of the Lord.

When people think of King David, they think of the highs in his life. He defeated Goliath; he rose from shepherd to king. But life was not always easy for him. He spent years running from King Saul who wanted to kill him. As king, he had to lead men into battle. So he had firsthand knowledge about the strength in the name of the Lord. As he was preparing to go into battle, the people prayed for their king. “In times of trouble, may the Lord answer your cry. May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.  Psalm 20:1. The people knew that the name of the Lord is a strong fortress.

A fortress is a military stronghold. It’s a large protected place that is difficult to penetrate. The only time a fortress is easy to break into is on TV. If you are running for your life and you can get into that fortress, everything changes. Your enemy retreats because they know that they cannot overcome the power of that protected fortress. The same is true for the child of God. Don’t stay and fight the enemy in your own strength. David said in Psalm 27:5, “For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.” Yes, you too can run to Him and find safety.

Thought for Today: Friend, you have a place of safety; use it.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
