Just about everyone has somebody they admire. You read articles about the person; you listen to their interviews and follow their activities on social media. If given the opportunity, you would probably drop everything if it’s within your power to do so, and go to an event where you have the opportunity to meet that individual. If that happens, you would take pictures to document your story.
People like to say that they know this person or that person but in reality what they are saying is that they know about that person. In Psalm 9:10 David said, “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord , do not abandon those who search for you.” In this verse, David was speaking out of his experience. He was speaking about his relationship with his Lord. In verse 3, he remembered how his enemies retreated; they took a step back. They had to back up. They didn’t back up because David was great and mighty. They were not afraid of David. If they were afraid of David they would not attack him. But when they attacked David; they had to deal with David’s God.
David was not talking to impress others. He had a history with this God, his Lord. He knew from experience that life can be challenging. He knew that the enemy did not play dead because David and his God backed him into a corner. When David reflected on those moments, he said in Psalm 34:17 NKJV , “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.” God delivered David because David was a friend of God.
That is the difference between a fan and a friend. I like to listen to Tasha Cobbs Leonard; I don’t know her; I’m a fan. However, there are some people who are friends with her. If I have a problem I cannot go to her house and ring the door bell for help because I’m a fan. But her friends can call her on the phone and talk to her. In the same way, David was a friend of God. If we are His friend then when we call on the Lord: He hears us; He answers; He delivers. He does not abandon and He does not disappoint those who trust in Him.
Thought for Today: Friend, Jesus is the best friend anyone can have.
