Trusting God When Life Hurts

We live in a world today that is so vastly different from what we knew when we were growing up. There was a time when respect was a way of life. It was unheard of for children to disrespect an adult, even if that adult was a stranger. We must admit that the world has changed and continues to change. How do we cope in a changing world?

Change is part of the story of mankind. Life would be boring if we didn’t experience change. Some, if not all, of the greatest moments in our lives involve change. Unfortunately, the reverse is true. So, what do you do when the change you experience is not the change you want? When that kind of change walk into our lives we can turn to God. One of my friends experienced a life changing event when she lost her husband unexpectedly. She had no time to prepare; she was plunged into the most devasting moments of her life. My heart ached for her, but I was totally unprepared for the grace she displayed.

I’m not saying that she was not sad, but she put God first even in this most difficult moment. What made this more difficult, she experienced her loss during the height of the covid pandemic. Family members were unable to attend, and she and her two children prepared to say goodbye. At the Funeral Service, I watched her stand up and challenge the attendees to put their trust in the Lord. Then, led them in singing, Waymaker.

Later, I asked her what gave her the strength to stand strong during adversity? She told me that over the years, she has been encouraging people to trust God. She had to put her trust in God even through the most painful experience in her life.  One of her favorite verses of scriptures is found in Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG, “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;  he’s the one who will keep you on track.” She stayed on track while living with pain. I do admire my friend, Elder Don-Marie Banfield-Jones. Thank you for being a source of inspiration in my life and the countless others whose lives you’ve touched because you dared to trust God during uncertainty.

Thought for Today: Friend, in your difficult moments, trust God.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
