God Sees the Heart

It’s always so amusing to see little children making faces at strangers and their parents trying to get the children to behave in a manner that they consider acceptable. These toddlers do not care what is happening; where it is happening and who is present. If they don’t like something, they will say. If they are bored, they will tell you they want to go home. You always seem to know what they think and how they feel.

As children get older, they learn the acceptable way to behave and speak in public. In other words, we have taught them that the right actions matter. So many times, as people of faith, we employ the same attitude in our walk of faith. We behave in a church-friendly, acceptable manner, even when our hearts do not align with our actions.  We forget that God looks at our hearts. Matthew 5:20 AMP tells us, “For I say to you that unless your righteousness (uprightness, moral essence) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

The Apostle Paul mentions the righteousness of God. One definition for righteousness says, to turn away from your natural, sinful desires, and turn to Christ and His perfect and righteous ways. So, righteousness is less about actions and more about our hearts. When Saul sinned and God sent Samuel to anoint the future king, Samuel thought that one of his brothers looked like a king. But God interjected into Samuel’s thoughts;  The Lord told him, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Righteousness is not some thing that happens overnight when you get old, God choose David while he was a teenage boy because of the condition of his heart. Today, God still looks at the heart. God has a standard and His standard is righteousness. What is the condition of your heart?

Thought for Today: Friend, God is looking at your heart.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
