There are many people who enjoy reading an enjoyable book. But what is a good book? Well, that is different for many people. Some people love mysteries; some love romance novels and some love books that help them to become better people.
The best-selling book of all time is the Bible. It is not like other books that once you’ve read it, you never read again. In 1 Samuel 22:31 NLT it says, “God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.” We love perfection but it’s difficult to find it. Here David said that God’s way is perfect; that is being entirely without fault. Then he goes on to say that God’s promises prove true. A promise is an agreement to do or not do something. How many times have you broken a promise that you have made? God does not do that; He stands by His word. From his interactions with God, David declared that God’s promises are true; in other words, God does not lie.
What sets the Word of God apart? “The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.” (Psalm 12:6) God’s word is pure; nothing can taint or tarnish God’s word. Sometimes, situations change what we believe. We sometimes change our belief system to conform to what we want to see. God does not do that; He remains the same.
At times, we can all feel overwhelmed when confronting the issues of life. In those times, you can find comfort in God’s word. David said, “Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.” (Psalm 119:50) Troubles do not discriminate; they visit everyone, some more than others. David experienced comfort through the word of God; you can too.
Thought for Today: Friend, there is power in God’s word.
