Benefits of God’s Word

Previously, we looked at living by God’s word. God’s word plays a significant role in the life of a believer. It’s like a GPS; it gives us directions. I don’t know about you, but there are times I ignore what the GPS tells me to do. You can read about that in Follow the GPS.

There are benefits when we follow the directives in the Word of God. In Psalm 119, David talked about the  benefits of applying the word of God in our lives. “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts].“  (verse 9) There are some items  where purity is essential; purity talks about freedom from contamination. Sin contaminates. It we desire to remain uncontaminated from sin; we must comply with God’s standards; His standard is the word of God.

The word of God gives hope. Hope is a confident expectation and desire for something good in the future. Verse 43 NLT says, “Do not snatch your word of truth from me, for your regulations are my only hope.” Yes, I can dare say that we all desire something good to happen. David knew that the hope he needed comes from the word of God. The truth of the word of God gives hope.

We all have experienced seasons of difficulty; in those times, we need comfort. The word of God gives comfort. Verse 50 NLT says, “Your promise revives me;  it comforts me in all my troubles.”  There are times when we must face our troubles head on; sometimes those who are close to us don’t understand. In those times, the word of God comforts. There are benefits when we study and apply the word of God.

Thought for Today: Friend, there are benefits for us in the word of God.
