There are times when we struggle to do what is right, like Clifford in Clifford’s Good Deeds by Norman Bridwell. Clifford tried so hard to be helpful, but just about everything he attempted turned out wrong. In the end, he helped rescue two small children when their home was on fire and helped put out the fire.
Sometimes we can be like Clifford because our virtuous deeds can blow up in our face. Other times, we have simply gone in the wrong direction doing as we please. In Micah 6, God is speaking to His people; they were not trying to do what is right; He reminded them about His goodness over the years. Then Micah told the people God’s requirement. “The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.” (Micah 6:8 CEV).
God demands that justice be done. Other translations use the word right. To act justly means you will do what is morally right or fair. When God delivered His people from Egypt, He gave them laws to live by. Slavery is unjust in its treatment of others and God did not want them to adopt those practices in their communities. In Deuteronomy 16:18 NLT God said, “Appoint judges and officials for yourselves from each of your tribes in all the towns the Lord your God is giving you. They must judge the people fairly.”
Even now, God is looking for those attitudes and behaviors in our lives. Proverbs 21:3 NLT says, “The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.” David understood this; When he disobeyed God’s commandment, he went to God in prayer. He said, “You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one.” (Psalm 51:16) God is looking not at our actions but at our hearts. Our hearts will determine if our actions are morally right or fair.
Thought for Today: Friend, God requires that we do what is right and fair.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Amen 🙏
