You Will Lose it!

The role of a parent can be tough. There are so many hats that you must wear, and you try to wear each one to the best of your ability. When you must discipline little ones, it’s not easy especially when they look at you with those innocent eyes, and your heart melts. Instead of assigning your idea of discipline, you forgive and there is no punishment. You just extended mercy to your child.

Earlier we looked at Micah 6:8 CEV, “The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.” Today, we will look at the second item mentioned in the verse: mercy. We love to experience mercy, but we find it difficult to give to others. Jesus told a parable about a man who harbored unforgiveness in Matthew 18:21-35 NLT. This story talks about a king and one of his servants. This servant was unable to pay the millions he owed his master. The custom of the day was to sell the man, his family, and his possessions to repay his debt.

Here is what happened: “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt.” (Verses 26-27). How would you feel if you were in his position? Imagine, your banker said that they would write off your mortgage, your car note, your student loans, your credit card debt, and you are free to continue working for the bank and getting paid. That is mercy. That experience should impact how you interact with others.

This servant went out and saw someone who owed him a small fraction of what he owed. The man asked the servant to give him time to pay off his debt, he refused and threw his friend into prison. He forgot the mercy that was extended to him. When the master heard what transpired between the two men, the master threw his servant into prison because he did not show mercy. God extended mercy our way. Let us extend mercy to others.

Thought for Today: Friend, show mercy because God extended mercy to you.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
