Infertility is a problem that affects women in every sector of society; rich and poor women alike have issues with infertility. It is not a modern problem either. Abraham’s wife Sarah had issues with infertility along with several other women in the Bible.
One woman who had difficulty living with infertility was Elizabeth. Her husband, Zechariah, was the priest and it’s quite possible that she helped with some of the duties that involved children. She was infertile in a society that valued women though their ability to produce children. She was once a young woman with a dream of having a family but as the years went by nothing happened. It’s possible that she was the object of several discussions, and her husband did not put her away for a wife who could bear him a son.
One day, the angel of the Lord visited her husband as he went about his daily duties. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John. You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.” (Luke 1:13-14 NLT) Zechariah was overwhelmed and asked the angel, “How can I be sure this will happen? I’m an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years.” (Verse 18)
Some time later, his wife conceived, and she was overjoyed! She said, “How kind the Lord is!” she exclaimed. “He has taken away my disgrace of having no children.” (Verse 25) She took the time to praise God when God brought change into her life. What are you facing that seems so unchangeable? Infertility happens in many areas of life. Whatever you are facing, God can bring change into your situation. You don’t have to wait till you see the answer; start praising God for your answer and blessing today.
Thought for Today: Friend, God can change your situation today.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
Amen.
