Wait with Expectation

Hope! It’s a word we use frequently in life. We use it to convey sentiments of goodwill to the people around us. The dictionary defines hope as a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Our feelings are unreliable. Today, we are feeling happy because we got a raise on our job.  Later, someone hits our car and at that moment, happiness flew out of the window and now there are a lot of other feelings taking its place.

As people of faith, we do not walk by how we feel; you see, our hope is in God. What is Biblical hope? Biblical hope not only desires something good for the future — it expects it to happen. Bible based hope desires and expects. Psalm 39:7 AMP says, “And now, Lord, for what do I expectantly wait? My hope [my confident expectation] is in You.” Here David is expressing that his hope is in God.

Now I know we like things to happen quickly. Our society wants everything fast and quick. And we bring that attitude into our relationship with God. We don’t want to wait but at times God requires us to wait. Abraham didn’t ask God for a son; God promised him a son. He hoped and he wanted for twenty-five years for that promise to become a reality in his life. While he waited, he hoped. “Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)

Are you waiting on God to do something in your life? Have you been waiting for a long time, and it appears that nothing is happening? Let me tell you about an experience I had. I cut a piece of a plant and I planted it in a pot. I waited for several weeks and saw nothing. I believed that I should see signs that the plant was alive. I took the plant out of the pot. I saw that the root was developing under the soil, but I couldn’t see. When we place our hope in God, let’s leave it there because God is working. There are things He needs to develop in us and for us. Wait in expectation on Him.

Thought for Today:  Friend, wait expectantly on God.
