
Psalm 23, also known as the Shepherd’s Psalm, was written by David, who was himself a shepherd. He was also known as the shepherd king. He had insight into the relationship between the shepherd and the sheep.
What do we know about the Shepherd we follow?
The good Shepherd provides – Psalm 23:1 AMP:
The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want.
The good Shepherd is tender Isaiah- 40:11 AMP
He will protect His flock like a shepherd, He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom; He will gently and carefully lead those nursing their young.
The good Shepherd is sacrificial – John 10:2 AMP
But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep [the protector and provider].
The good Shepherd can do the impossible – Jeremiah 32:17 AMP
Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! There is nothing too difficult or too wonderful for You—
The good Shepherd welcomes the wanderers – 1 Peter 2:25 AMP
For you were continually wandering like [so many] sheep, but now you have come back to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.
