There was a time when parents taught their children how to show respect. They were respectful at home and beyond. Today, many children are disrespectful to their parents, and they behave the same way at school. In short, we live in a time when children are disobedient wherever they go. In our world today, obedience is not a priority.
As we continue to look at the fear of the Lord, we see that when you fear God, it leads to obedience. Deuteronomy 13:4 AMP says, “You shall walk after the Lord your God and you shall fear [and worship] Him [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect], and you shall keep His commandments and you shall listen to His voice, and you shall serve Him, and cling to Him.” As we can see, those who fear God are required to obey.
When Saul was king, God gave him directives, but he decided to do it his way. In short, he was disobedient. Disobedience is the refusal to obey someone in authority. It was a time when Israel was at war with the Philistines. Before they went into battle, the prophet would offer sacrifice to God. This time, Saul was waiting but Samuel was delayed; he didn’t fear God, so he did not follow the commandments of God and he offered the sacrifice.
Samuel was not pleased when he realized that Saul disobeyed God. Samuel told him, “How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. Had you kept it, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” (2 Samuel 13:23-24 NLT) God requires obedience, so it is our duty to fear the Lord and obey.
Thought for Today: Friend, to obedience is important to God.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
