Where is Your Focus?

There are some things that transcend country, financial and political power,  and age. Difficulties and struggles are common to man despite wealth, privilege, or poverty. What do we do? Peter Marshall said, “When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.”

We cannot hide from difficulties, but we can look to the Lord. David met the difficulties of life like all of us. In Psalm 121, he was discouraged, and he chose a course of action to resolve his issue. He didn’t seek the experts to determine what he should do, instead he made a bold confession:  I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” (verses 1-2 NKJV) David looked to the Lord.

Looking to the Lord changes our focus. One day,  Peter and the other disciples were in the boat; the winds were heavy, and the boat was tossed to-and-fro.  Early in the morning, they saw a figure approaching them walking on the water  and they were terrified. Jesus told them,  “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” (Matthew 22:27). Peter responded,  “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” (verse 28) Jesus told him to come, and Peter was walking on the water. Then he changed his focus.  Verse 30 says, “But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

Like David, Peter recognized the importance of keeping his focus on the Lord. When our focus is on God, it does not mean that there would not be difficulties and challenges, but we can overcome when we look to the Lord. David ends this Psalm with another bold confession, “The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”
When we keep our focus on the Lord, in the time of difficulty, He will preserve us.

Thought for Today: Friend,  keep your focus on Jesus.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
