Don’t Be Ungrateful

While Jesus was on earth, He demonstrated  the fruit of the Spirit. So, kindness was a part of His life. The dictionary defines kindness as  actions intended to benefit others. Jesus took the time to interact with others for their benefit. How do we respond to the kindness of others? Unfortunately, some of us are unthankful or not showing appreciation or thanks for a favor or benefit received. In other words, we demonstrate ungratefulness.

In  Luke 17, we have an account of an act of kindness. As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance,  crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” (verses 12-13 NLT) Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem when ten leprous men, called to get His attention. They were sick and in need of help. They knew that He had the power to bring change into their lives. Jesus told them,  “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. (verse 14) The men had the outcome they desired.

How did they respond? Verse 15 tells us, “One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” One man out of ten, returned to say thanks. He was so happy, he just had to give God thanks. The other nine took their healing and kept it moving. They were aware of the difference that blessing made in their lives, but they had other things to do.

Sometimes we behave like these men. We come before God and petition before Him. Our situation is desperate, and we request that others join us in prayer. Then we get the answer we seek, and we neglect to thank God. We behave like the nine who did not return to say thanks. It’s time for a change. If we develop the habit of taking time daily to thank God for the many blessings we experience each day, we will not live a life of ingratitude.

Thought for Today: Friend: in everything, give thanks.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
