Make a Change: Be Thankful

Earlier we saw that we can walk in ungratefulness after the Lord has blessed us. However, we behave the same way towards those who cross our path. We are grateful for the actions that benefit us and when it’s over, that’s it; we are done. And yes, we behave just like that.

In Genesis 40, we see an account of Joseph’s interactions between two other prisoners. Joseph saw that they were sad, and  he asked what was wrong. Each man had a dream that he could not understand. Joseph replied, “Interpreting dreams is God’s business, Go ahead and tell me your dreams.” (verse 8) The men explained their dreams. The chief cupbearer went first. Joseph told him, “Within three days Pharaoh will lift you up and restore you to your position as his chief cupbearer,” (verse 13) Then Joseph asked him to remember him when things are good with you.

Next, the baker told his dream. Joseph told him, “The three baskets also represent three days.Three days from now Pharaoh will lift you up and impale your body on a pole. Then birds will come and peck away at your flesh.” (verses 18-19) Everything happened as Joseph foretold. The baker lost his life, and the cupbearer was restored; however, he never remembered Joseph. “Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought.” (verse 23) It took a crisis in the palace two years later to remember the kindness Joseph extended to him.

How have you responded to the kindness of others? Are you like the cupbearer, you take the good offered and forget the person who helped you? A Chinese proverb says, “Those who drink the water must remember those who dug the well.” Are you so happy drinking the water that you forgot those who helped you rise to the top? Make a change; be grateful and remember the kindness of others.

Thought for Today: Friend, choose thankfulness.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
