Judge Deborah!

There are still many today who have issues with women serving in all aspects of ministry. They believe that serving in certain areas of ministry is acceptable; for example, women can clean the church,  prepare meals for visitors, and take care of the children during service. Beyond that, they should be seen and not heard.

The Bible documents the contribution of women, some outside the gender assigned roles imposed by society. One such woman was Deborah. She was a judge; an assignment usually given to a man. But Deborah was a judge. When she began her ministry, they were under the control of a Canaanite king. Deborah had a message for Barak, the military leader.  Now she sent word and summoned Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali, and said to him, “Behold, the Lord, the God of Israel, has commanded, ‘Go and march to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men [of war] from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun.” (Judges 4:6 AMP)

Barak didn’t doubt Deborah, but he told her: “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” (Verse 8). She consented and responded, “I will certainly go with you; nevertheless, the journey that you are about to take will not be for your honor and glory, because the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh.” (Verse 9). So, Deborah worked with Barak and delivered Israel from the hands of the enemy. God does not look at gender; He looks for a willing heart.

Thought for Today: Friend, always have a willing heart.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
