As we continue through this season when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we cannot dismiss the things that are happening around us. We have unrest in various parts of the world and we long for change that will bring peace. We look at our communities and we realize that we need change also. And people are wondering when change will come.
How do we live during crisis? We look for peace. The world looks for the absence of war so they can have peace. But peace is more than the absence of war. It is something that happens on the inside even if there is chaos on the outside. Jesus said in John 14:27 CEV, “I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. It isn’t like the peace this world can give. So don’t be worried or afraid.” That is a powerful statement! We cannot have peace without the one who gives peace. His peace is perfect. Isaiah 26:3 says, “The Lord gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm.”
So, if you are saying, I don’t have that kind of peace, that can be easily remedied. Jesus is offering the gift to you; He wants you to experience the peace He offers. When a gift is offered, it must be accepted so that the benefits can be enjoyed. Accept Jesus Christ and His gift. “Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.” (Philippians 4:7) He is the Prince of Peace!
