A few weeks ago, we were reading Luke chapter 1 where Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. In her old age, God remembered Elizabeth and she had a son, and his name was John. John, the disciple, spoke about John, Elizabeth’s son this way: “God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light.” (John 1:6-7 NLT)
In Mark 1, there is further information about John and his ministry. “This messenger was John the Baptist. He was in the wilderness and preached that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.” (Verse 4). That is exactly what it means to repent in the sight of God. Repentance is not feeling or just saying sorry about bad behavior in the sight od God; it involves a complete turnaround. It requires the individual to acknowledge their wrongdoing, rejecting their actions and manner of life and seeking forgiveness from God. Then the individual moves forward living a life that pleases God.
Where are you in your life as it pertains to a relationship with God? This is a question that each person must answer individually. The message of repentance is just as relevant today because we are all required to answer this most important question one day in our lives. This is the month that people desire change and make resolutions. Make a resolution to acknowledge where you are; seek forgiveness from God and walk in relationship with Him. This would not make just 2024 great, but it would make a difference for life and eternity.
Thought for Today: Friend, today is the best day make your life right with God.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
