The life of faith is one of service. It means that first, we serve God and then we serve each other. When we investigate the word serve, we see that it means, “to render habitual obedience to; to owe allegiance to. That speaks about our service to God. It also means to give aid, to give help, to perform a service for. God does not need our aid so clearly; we must serve each other.
The Apostle was passionate when he was persecuting the church before his conversation. He continued with that same passion as a child of God. In time he became the Apostle to the Gentiles. Yet, he was not concerned about his personal wellbeing. While Jesus was on the earth, He too lived a life of service as an example for us, Luke 22:27 NLT says, “Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.” Like Jesus, the Apostle Paul took his service seriously.
While on his missionary trips, he planted churches, and he took the time to nurture these churches until they became stable congregations. The letters he wrote to the churches, some say 13 while others say 14, account for about 50% of the New Testament. Today, we are still learning from these epistles; they are important for our growth and development as people of faith. He also took the time to mentor the next generation of leaders. We have Timothy and Titus as examples of leaders mentored by Paul.
In 1 Corinthians 9, he eloquently spoke about the duties of those who are blessed by ministry; yet he gave up his right. He said, “In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it. Yet I have never used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that I want to start now. In fact, I would rather die than lose my right to boast about preaching without charge.” (verses 14-15) Paul served others; we need to do the same.
Thought for Today: Friend, find the joy in serving others.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
As children of God, we are called to service.
