Have you ever felt discouraged? I would dare to say that everyone has at one time, or another, felt discouraged. The dictionary tells us that we are discouraged when we have lost our confidence or enthusiasm for something. Life can be difficult when we are discouraged.
When we look at Job, we see a man who was devoted to God. He was concerned about his children. After his children gathered, he went to God on their behalf. “When these celebrations ended—sometimes after several days—Job would purify his children. He would get up early in the morning and offer a burnt offering for each of them. For Job said to himself, “Perhaps my children have sinned and have cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.” (Job1:5 NLT)
One day, God boasted about Job and the enemy told God that Job would curse Him if Job lost his possessions. So, God allowed the enemy to touch his possessions, but Job continued to trust God. Then, the enemy went before God again and sought permission to touch his body. His situation became so bad that Job sat outside the city gate. Job’s friends joined him, and they accused him of wrongdoing. Job responded, “I have heard words like that before; the comfort you give is only torment.” (Job 16:1-2 GNT)
When we encounter someone in distress, we need to be mindful of how we speak. Sometimes, it might appear that the individual is at fault and is suffering because of the error of their ways. This was not the case with Job. and it might not be the case for the individual in your community. When someone is going through a difficult season in life, give support mingled with Grace.
Thought for Today: Friend, support without judging.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
