Condition of the Heart

There are many songs written about the heart. The heart plays a vital role in our emotional wellbeing. It dictates who we are and how we behave. A wicked heart will produce wicked actions while a thankful heart will show gratitude.

Saul was the first king of Israel, and he did as he pleased. It made no difference if the prophet Samuel said that God wants you to do this, he did what he wanted to do. He paid no attention to the activities that were outside of the authority of the king, he did everything his way. However, actions have consequences. One day, Saul received some news he didn’t want to hear; “How foolish!” Samuel exclaimed. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you. Had you kept it, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” (1 Samuel 13:13-14 NLT)

What made David a man after God’s heart? I believe it was the condition of David’s heart. King David said in Psalm 119:10 AMP, “With all my heart I have sought You, [inquiring of You and longing for You]; Do not let me wander from Your commandments [neither through ignorance nor by willful disobedience].” First, Saul was disobedient; he repeatedly disobeyed God. However, David had a desire to please God. In Psalm 119:2 AMP he says, Blessed and favored by God are those who keep His testimonies, And who [consistently] seek Him and long for Him with all their heart. If we want to people after God’s own heart, we need to do the same.

Thought for Today: Friend, pay attention to the condition of your heart.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
