Hosanna: Save, I Pray!

Yesterday, we celebrated Palm Sunday. People all around the world waved palms as they worshipped and celebrated our Lord and King. Why do we do this? It is a tradition that many undertake without paying attention to what happened and why.

In Mark 11, there is an account of the event we call Palm Sunday. Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead.“Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. ( Mark 11:1-2 NLT) He was going to enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Is that important? Yes, it is. It fulfills the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9, Rejoice, O people of Zion!  Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.

The people, not the political leaders, gave Jesus a king’s welcome. Some spread their clothes on the ground while others cut down and laid  branches from the trees. Verses 9-10 AMP says,  Those who went in front and those who were following [Him] were shouting [in joy and praise], “Hosanna (Save, I pray)! Blessed (praised, glorified) is He who comes in the name of the Lord! “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest [heaven]!”  Hosanna here is translated as please save us. Today, whatever confronts you, you can cry out to Him and say, “Hosanna (Save, I pray)! He will answer; He wants to save you.

Thought for Today: Friend,  Jesus saves those who call on Him.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
