Hidden Beauty

Have you ever had to do work in your home, and you had you pack up some things and then you forgot about them? Well, that has happened in my life. One day, we were revisiting some of these items and we came across something that generated a different response in both of us.

My husband and I looked at the item. I said, “Isn’t that beautiful?” He looked at me; shook his head and rolled his eyes. Then he said, “Recycle!” I couldn’t believe what he was saying. The silver was tarnished, very tarnished but I looked and saw beauty. I got out my polish and spent some time with it, and it was beautiful. There are people we will meet from time to time who are like that silver item; placed in the bin of life and forgotten. We look at them, roll our eyes and turn our backs because we believe that they are beyond redemption.

We behave like we are better than they are because the tarnish in our lives is not so easy to see. Truth be told, we all have some spots that needs polishing with the word of God. James 1:21 NLT, addresses the issue of tarnish in our lives. It says, “So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.” James was addressing the believers in the church. And just in case we think that this does not apply to us, he went on to say, “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.”  (Verses 23-24) Let us polish our lives with the word of God and allow the beauty of Jesus Christ to shine in us.

Thought for Today: Friend, apply the truth od God’s word to your life.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
