Undercover Follower

In life, at times, we follow others. Children follow their parents and at times they behave like their parents. However, the children are the first to say that is far from the truth. But can you identify any area in your life where you are following someone?

In Matthew 26, we can see that Peter was a man in conflict. Jesus and His disciples  had their last supper together and they were on their way to the Mount of Olives. As they traveled, Jesus told them something strange. He said, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’   Peter didn’t want to hear that. He responded, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.”  Then Jesus had some words that Peter did not want to hear. “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” (verses 31-34) Peter veery emphatically said, No!

When the temple guards came to the garden to arrest Jesus, the disciples ran away. Peter wanted to know what was happening with Jesus so he went where he thought nobody would recognize him; but they did. Three times someone said that he was a friend of Jesus and three times he denied it. Peter went back to his old fisherman’s language as he denied knowing Jesus. When we want to follow Jesus undercover, be warned, we will behave in ways that will cause us to bow our heads and like Peter, weep bitterly. Peter was sitting in the wrong place with the wrong people. Be mindful, there is no such thing as an undercover follower of Jesus.

Thought for Today: Friend, be careful where you go and what you do.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
