It Can be Done!

Most if not all of us would like people to speak favorably about us when the need arises. Usually, we don’t care when it’s idle talk but when it pertains to our jobs and work ethic, we want good reports. But we need to be cautious even then, because if we are not careful, we can believe the lies people speak about us.

There was a young man in the Bible who had a problem just like that. He lived during the period when the  Midianites dominated Israel. The people were distressed and looking for someone to take away their reproach. Even simple activities like harvesting their crops proved difficult. In the midst of the difficulty, one day this young man, Gideon by name, was sitting under a tree and had the strangest greeting from the angel of the Lord  who said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”  (Judges 6:12 NLT) He did not respond to what the angel said, instead he complained about what was happening to his people. Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” (Verse 14)

Gideon was stunned! I know he was not talking to me. He has no idea who I am. So, Gideon chose to enlighten the angel of the Lord. “But Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” (Verse 15) That might be what the community thought and what they said but it does not have to be your reality unless you believe their negative report. The world would love to put us in a mold to control and manipulate us, but we need to allow the word of God to shape our thinking. When you face difficulty in our God-given tasks, speak the word of God over your life and say like the Apostle Paul, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13). Friends, the task is doable.
