When Problems Precede Blessings

When I was a child, it was the norm to have evangelistic meetings regularly. These outdoor services so people could listen and participate from their homes. It was part of the culture of the church and the community expected these outdoor services where they could experience God’s love. Eventually, they would transition from their homes on Sunday afternoons to the Sunday morning services and the church grew as a result.

Nowadays, the church is at a loss when they talk about evangelistic outreach. The things that worked over the years no longer work anymore and they throw up their hands in frustration. However, what do we do about Matthew 9: 36-37 NLT which says, He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the laborers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more laborers into his fields.” This clearly states that the task is relevant today. Can we go out and do meaningful evangelism in 2024?

I have a high school alum who has done just that. He is Senior Pastor Livingston Mayers of the Belmont Wesleyan Holiness Church. Covid was and still is a big problem in the church community. When the ban was lifted, this church experienced a 50% drop in attendance. That was a big problem, but Pastor Mayers and the leadership of the church explored ways and means to resolve the issue. They decided if the members were not returning to church, they would go to the community where the members reside. That vision transformed both the church and its community. I will share their story how they evangelized their community proving that with God, all things are possible.

Thought for Today: Friend, face problems head on with Jesus Christ.
