Life can be unpredictable: everything is going well and suddenly you are experiencing distress, what do you do? You examine your resources to see if you have what you need to ride out your storm. The storms we face can be literal of figurative. But in each case, we want to survive the storm.
Sometimes we have no idea that we are about to face a storm. In Mark chapter 4 they didn’t expect a storm. Everything was going well; Jesus was doing ministry by the seashore, and all was going well. There were so many people that He got into a boat. He spent the day teaching and when it was evening, He told His disciples, “Let us cross over to the other side.” (verse 35 NKJV) But after a long day of ministry, Jesus fell asleep.
While He was sleeping a storm arose. Some of these disciples were fishermen so they knew how to manage a boat in the storm, but this storm was different! This storm was so fierce that it threatened to destroy the boat. They became afraid and asked, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” (verse 38) Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace] be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. (verse 39)
The storms we face are no different; The Apostle Paul faced a storm where the ship was destroyed, but no lives were lost. The boat ran aground, and they were all able to make it to land. How? Well, those who knew how to swim, swam. And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land. (Acts 27:44 KJV) We all need different levels of support, but we can make it through your storm.
Thought for Today: Friend, Jesus can speak peace to your storm.
