There are times in life when we are unable to advocate for ourselves. Babies and little children cannot communicate that they are the victims of maltreatment and neglected so we advocate for them. Then we have seasons in our lives when we can find ourselves unable to seek the care we need. Today we will look at one man’s journey and see how others advocated for him.
At the beginning of Luke 7, there is an account of a man, the servant of a centurion, who was extremely sick and at the point of death. But the centurion valued this servant and wanted to do all he could to save his life. After hearing about Jesus, he decided to act. He engaged some Jewish leaders to go to Jesus on his behalf. Jesus listened and decided to go with them. The centurion approached Jesus in humility and asked that He speak to the illness in his servant. He believed that Jesus was able to heal his servant without entering his house. Now when Jesus heard this, He was amazed at him, and turned and said to the crowd that was following Him, “I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith [as this man’s].” (Luke 7:9 AMP)
God put a high priority on faith. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. (Hebrews 6:1 NLT) Faith is the key that unlocks answers from God in our lives. In Matthew 21:22, Jesus said, And whatever you ask for in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Jesus wants to answer our prayer. Sometimes we behave that all we must do is say, ‘I want that’ and it will happen. But we need to ask in faith so that there will be joy when God answers our prayer. (Matthew 16:24) The centurion asked and received with joy.
Thought for Today: Friend, ask in faith and receive with joy.
