Stand Still: God is Working

We live in a society that does not appreciate inactivity. We believe that we must be doing something at all times. There are so many gadgets to keep us connected with what we have to do that we really don’t need to be inactive.

But there are times in life when God calls us to stop and wait. When God’s people were boxed in with no place to go, the answer was to stand still. “But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.” (Exodus 14:13 NLT). You know, when we think about standing still, we tend to think it’s inactive. But standing still at God’s command is an activity. When you stand still, you are usually waiting on something or waiting for someone. However, when God directs us to stand still, we need to wait. In those times,  God is saying to turn over the responsibility  for what lies ahead.

At times, we are uneasy because we are conditioned to take care of our issues on our own. But the word of God gives us different directions. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 62:5 says, Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.” As we stand still before God and wait in His presence, He will give us what we need to stand. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” Stand still and see what God can and will do for you.

Thought for Today: Friend, just stand still.
