At this time of the year, many people are looking at their lives and wondering what to do. Thanksgiving is around the corner and that signals the end of the year is near. There is anxiety and fear about the things that might happen tomorrow. While we need to prepare for tomorrow, anxiety is not preparation.
There was a family in the Bible that lived in anxiety as they looked at the situation around them. There was a famine in the land of Bethlehem, so Elimelech and Naomi felt it was time to migrate. They had two sons, and they evaluated their situation: lack of food; lack of opportunity and fear about tomorrow. When they looked at the land of Moab, they saw green fields, opportunities, and hope. So, they packed up and moved away.
That is a scenario that is still truly relevant today. People are always looking for opportunities and they forget that God has our tomorrows in His hands. This family enjoyed the good things Moab had to offer, then tragedy struck. Naomi lost her husband and two sons in Moab. While she was looking for security in a foreign land, God remembered the people in Bethlehem. (Ruth 1:7). Is it wrong to migrate? Definitely not. Is it wrong to make a major decision without seeking God’s direction? It is. With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow. (Proverbs 3:5-6 CEV).
Does that principle still apply to us today? It does. God does not change. We believe that we are the best people to make the necessary decisions in our lives, but our knowledge is limited to our today. We have no idea what tomorrow holds. When faced with changing decisions, seek God. Gideon had to make a life changing decision, and he checked and double checked before he proceeded. We should do the same. Don’t leave your Bethlehem for Moab. Moab looks promising but God shows up in Bethlehem.
Thought for Today: Friend, pray before you leave.
Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
