The day before Thanksgiving is usually hectic with last-minute shopping, menu changes, and sometimes, added guests. Preparation is in full swing. People cook more than normal and eat more than normal. In the end, we say that Thanksgiving was great!
I’m sitting here trying to remember what was the most memorable Thanksgiving ever, and I can’t pinpoint one in particular. Looking back, I can see God’s goodness year after year. The menu changes, the location changes, and even the people change, but God remains faithful. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 NLT).
David understood God’s unchanging character, so he said: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” (Psalms 136:1). That is key as we celebrate Thanksgiving. The turkey is not the star of the day; the creator of the universe is; He is the one who deserves our praise. Let’s make a shift and put God in first place, not only on the Thanksgiving holiday but every day of our lives. He deserves first place.
Thought for Today: Friend, every day is a good day to give thanks.
