Lend to the Lord: Help Those in Need

At this time of the year, our thoughts turn to those in need. We think of people who need help and often wonder what we can do to make their burden lighter. There are so many social issues affecting the nation and the world. Homelessness is one of those issues. It has been raining for the last two days, and I wonder what you do when you don’t have a roof on rainy days and cold days. We also wonder about their children. Are they going to school? Are they getting enough of what they need to grow and develop properly? That leads to the big wonder, I wonder what can I do to help?

Unfortunately, for most of us, it ends here until those thoughts invade our minds again. We can not rid the world of all the social ills, but we can help one person at a time. Hebrews 13:16 NLT says,  And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. All well and good, you say, but how can I make a difference? There was a little boy sitting with his little lunch box when there was a huge hunger issue. He volunteered to share. The men responsible for feeding the crowd said, “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” (John 6:9).

Jesus stepped in and blessed the meal, and that little boy’s lunch fed about 5,000 men. You know, when you add the women and children, it is a much larger crowd. We are speaking about this child today because he was willing to share. Our little might not feed a crowd, but it could help one person or one family. If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and he will repay you! (Proverbs 19:17). I pray that we will see it in our hearts to help those in need, not only at this time of year because in every season, there are people in need of help.

Thought for Today: Friend, let’s be willing to help those in need.
