We, at times, repeat things we hear without paying attention to what we are saying. It’s an accepted fact in the community of faith that God is faithful. When things go our way, we proclaim the faithfulness of God.
Is God faithful when we are confronted with unpleasant circumstances? Well, David has the answer. He said, “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (Psalms 23:4 NLT). David understood that even when his world seemed darkest, and the future appeared uncertain that God remains faithful. What drove him to this conclusion? He states that his Shepherd is always with him, even when life takes him through the valley experiences.
God never promised a life without valleys, but He promised His presence. Through the problems that plagued his life, David found comfort in the presence of his Shepherd. Billy Graham said, “Mountaintops are for views and inspiration, but fruit is grown in the valleys.” There is purpose in the valley; you see, the Shepherd takes us through the valley. His plan is for us to come out triumph on the other side. The enemy might airmark death in your valley, but David discovered that the Shepherd used his rod and staff to protect and comfort. David loved to sing and I’m sure he would identify with Thomas Chisholm and the old hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness. God’s character would not allow Him to be anything else but faithful; He is loyal, steadfast, and unwavering. Today, I want to thank God for His faithfulness in my life.
Though for Today: Friend, even in our valleys, God is faithful.
