There is not a person on this earth who wakes up in the morning with a burning desire to be a failure. The opposite is true; we want to succeed in everything we put our hands to do.
The same is true for our walk of faith; we want to experience success in our walk with God. We have a real enemy who would do all in his power to see us fail. But James 4:7 NLT says, “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” However, when we quote this verse, we start with, resist the devil. But that is a trick of the enemy. The first part of the verse is necessary if you want the devil to flee from you. The devil is not afraid of you like that. No, he is afraid of the power of your God.
So the first part says, “Humble yourself before God.” In other words, lay aside your pride and the things that make you think you are all that and submit yourself to God. Then, you will be able to stand up when the enemy comes up against you. “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8). When we humble ourselves, we recognize that the strength to resist comes from God, and the enemy is not a lion; he is only pretending to be one. But, with God, we have the power to live victoriously as we humble ourselves before God.
Thought for Today: Friend, live humbly before God.
