The Blessing of Contentment

There was a time when there  were lots of programs telling us what  we could do to become a millionaire. Almost all of these plans required you to buy a plan from the person who was sharing their story. Unfortunately, the host usually used his sale of that brilliant plan to make him or her rich.

Why is it so easy for people to fall prey to schemes like these? We all want to have more money. We have been led to believe that more is better. But is that really true? When our primary focus is more,  that desire becomes a bottomless pit that can never be satisfied. Proverbs 23:4-5 NLT says, “Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye, wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.”

What do we do? We have seen countless examples of people who had tons of money, and it flew away like it had wings. Let us be content with what we have. Yes, as our families grow and change, we make adjustments, and that is the way it should be. We should make strides in our lives, but we need to be mindful that society fosters  discontent. Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” (Luke 12:15). Lord, help us to be content with Your blessings in our lives.

Thought for Today: Friend, better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice. (Proverbs 16:8).
