There are people who take the time to see others. I’m not talking about a glance where you take a casual look and you go back to business as usual. I’m talking about seeing someone and seeing the issue they face and what you can do to make a difference
2 Kings 4 introduces us to another woman. She is a woman of means who takes the time to see others. Remember, in those days, people walked. We have been told that Elisha was no longer a young man, yet he was still active in ministry. She recognized that he was a man of God; she told her husband, “Let’s build a small room for him on the roof and furnish it with a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Then he will have a place to stay whenever he comes by.” (2 Kings 4:10 NLT). She took the time to see Elisha. She saw that he was a man of God and identified an area in his life that she could make a difference.
We have become so busy that we can’t see those around us. We can’t see our neighbor with small children, who would be grateful for some potatoes and chicken. We don’t see the neighbor who has difficulty cutting his lawn and can’t afford to pay someone for their service. We don’t see the child who is home alone because his after-school program was canceled. When we take the time to see others, we can be God’s hand extended, making a difference. “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ (Matthew 25:40).
Thought for Today: Friend, take the time to see those around you.
