Have you ever been at the crossroads of a life-changing event, and you are not quite sure what to do? There is a path that is easy, and in your heart, you know that is not the way you should go. But what lies ahead is difficult, and you really don’t want to walk down that road, but deep down in your heart, you know you must. What do you do?
I think at one time or another, we all had to wrestle with something similar. For children, it’s the decision to engage in social activity instead of studying for an exam. For adults, it could be which job to choose. Jesus was not exempt from this internal conflict. When the weight of His destiny rested on His shoulders, He went before His Father in prayer. “And after going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible [that is, consistent with Your will], let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39 AMP). Jesus’ desire was to do His Father’s will.
Jesus left us an example when we find ourselves at the crossroads of life. Humans would always seek the path of least resistance. However, there are times the Father calls us to walk a difficult road. I’m sure Hosea didn’t jump for joy when God told him to marry a harlot so his life could serve ad an object lesson for the nation and their sin. However, he did it. The Apostle Paul suffered greatly as he took the gospel to the Gentiles; but he did it anyway way.
What about you? What is the Father asking of you? Sometimes, the assignment can be joyful. When Jesus came riding on a donkey, people were cheering. There are some assignments where people will cheer you, and the next day, when your assignment changes, they will desert you. When you find yourself alone in the valley of decision, don’t base your choice on what you want to do. Like Jesus, surrender to the Father and say, not my will Father, but Your will b see done. Your destiny hangs in the balance.
Thought for Today: Friend, strive to do the Father’s will.
