When I was a child, children were seen and not heard; in other words, children didn’t have a voice. Nowadays, we wish that we can hear them less at times. The things that come out of their mouths shock you. But, there are children who experience the love of God and change comes into their lives. Children are not too young to serve God.
Many parents make the mistake of dismissing the importance of their children’s decision to walk with God. They are too young to make a decision like that, they say; let them live their lives first. But the Bible clearly shows us the impact of children in ministry. In 2 Kings 5, we find a young girl who was captured and was a maid in Naaman’s house. She lived in his home and was privy to his medical condition. He was the military leader, but he was a leaper. This was not any child; she was a child whose life was changed by the power of God. She didn’t see Naaman as the wicked man who took her from her home and forced her to work in his house as a slave. She had compassion and saw him as a man in need of healing.
One day, she told his wife; “I wish my master would go to see the prophet in Samaria. He would heal him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5:3 NLT). That conversation made a difference in the life of Naaman. The king gave Naaman a letter to take to the king of Israel requesting healing for Naaman. The king of Israel saw this request as an excuse for war. However, Elisha saw this request as an opportunity to demonstrate the power of God. Naaman’s healing demonstrates that there is a place for children in ministry. Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.” (Mark 10:14). There is a place for children in ministry.
Thought for Today: Parents, don’t dissuade your children from following Jesus.
