Say No to Wickedness: Yes to Moral Integrity!

Carl Jung said, “It is a fact that cannot be denied: the wickedness of others becomes our own wickedness because it kindles something evil in our own hearts.” Sometimes our environment educates our character. It appears if we spend time around wicked individuals, we develop the character of wickedness.

When God rejected Saul . He chose David to become king. After David defeated Goliath and the women began singing about David, Saul became afraid and dedicated his life to kill him. But David and Saul’s son Jonathan made an oath, and David honored that oath when he became king. He found Jonathan’s disabled son, Mephibosheth,  took him into the palace and appointed Saul’s servant Ziba, to care for him. In addition, David gave Mephibosheth all the property that belonged to Saul. One day, all those in the palace had to leave for their own protection and Ziba left Mephibosheth behind thinking or hoping that he would die. When David inquired after Mephibosheth,  Ziba said, “He stayed in Jerusalem, He said, ‘Today I will get back the kingdom of my grandfather Saul.” ( 2 Samuel 16:3 NLT). So, David awarded Ziba Mephibosheth’s property.

Later, David found Mephibosheth just where he was abandoned by Ziba; he survived the ordeal. Mephibosheth did not seek revenge on Ziba; when David ordered that the kingdom be shared between the two men, Mephibosheth said, let him have it. We do not know why Ziba behaved in that manner, but he is like some we see today, men lacking integrity. The dictionary defines integrity as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Proverbs 10:2 AMP states, Treasures of wickedness and ill-gotten gains do not profit, But righteousness and moral integrity in daily life rescues from death. There are those who will trade integrity for profit; they are easy to identify. Wickedness profit for a time but God desires that we walk in  righteousness and moral integrity.

Thought for Today: Friend, wickedness doesn’t profit.
