Many people are confused about the word of God; some say it has no value in today’s world ands society; Others believe that it’s a collection of fairy tales. But I love what Charles Spurgeon said, “The Word of God is like a lion. You don’t have to defend a lion. All you have to do is let the lion loose, and the lion will defend itself.” Yes, the lion will defend itself.
Hebrews 4:12 NLT tells us, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” That is the strength of the lion: the word of God. The word exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Just look in the world around you and look at what you see. There are many who proclaim Christianity but have no idea what the Book says. When I was a child, I heard a story about a party for animals with horns. I don’t remember all the details but an animal without horns snuck in and to identify the intruder, they decided to examine the horns.
How does that story apply to us? Jesus said, “You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act.” (Matthew 7:16). This is how the word of God exposes those who genuinely love God out of a pure heart and those who say the love God for benefits; we must take some time and examine their fruit. Jesus continued: “Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.” (Matthew 7:16-18). The word of God is not partial; it will expose our hearts also.
Thought for Today: Friends, the word of God exposes the contents of each heart.
