Purpose in the Challenges of Life!

Challenges are part of human experiences; struggles  and social standing or poverty  do not restrict or prevent challenges. The same calamities that invade the homeless shelter invade the palace. So how do we respond in the face of challenges?

Andre Crouch wrote a song years ago that talks about purpose in the challenge. He said, “Through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God. Through it all,  I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.”  That message has withstood the test of time because it is just as relevant today as when he penned those words decades ago. The characters in the Bible are not the only individuals who face challenges, we face them also. However, we can find strength when we look at how others face their challenges. Joseph faced family drama and that is something universal. I don’t think there is a family that has not been touched by family drama. If you say your family has not experienced it, give it a day or two and get back to me.

Imagine one day, you are the beloved son of your father living in privilege and a few days later you are a slave in Potifar’s house. And you know that your brothers were responsible for the horror you are experiencing. The song that escapes your lips would be, “Nobody knows the trouble I see.”  But as you reflect about your situation and meditate on the word of God, Colossians 3:13 NLT comes to mind: “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”  When the reality of that verse invades your life, now you can sing Andre Crouch’s song, Through It All! Challenges will come but with those challenges we have a promise from God: “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8). What a promise from a faithful God!

Thought for Today: Friend, you are not alone; God is with you.
