Rooted: Established and Growing in Jesus Christ

Spring is my favorite season. While there is something to enjoy in every season, there is nothing that can compare to the joy I find in spring. For me, spring is the time to get back in the garden after saying goodbye to my garden in the fall and enduring the winter. Spring speaks of new beginnings and growth.

Long before the calendar says spring, I was at work planting seeds. Why? The price of live plants! I want my seeds to sprout and take root. You see, if the seed sprouts and does not take root, the plant will die. That is exactly how preemergent works in the lawn; the seeds sprout but the preemergent prevents the seed from taking root, so the seed dies. What is true for a seed, is true for a life in Christ. The Apostle Paul used this analogy in his writings. He said, “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7 NLT).

Roots are important in the life of a plant. When we talk about plants, we see the beauty: the leaves and flowers and we are happy. But it’s the root system that anchors the plant in the ground. How does that happen in the  life of a believer? We must form a relationship with Jesus Christ and live in communion with Him. When we do, we will find that our faith will grow strong in the truth we were taught, and we will overflow with thankfulness.

Thought for Today: Friend, let you roots grow in Christ.
