Blessed Through Abraham

The dictionary defines promise as a declaration that one will do something specified. Children are not alone. We all love it when someone promises us something good. We get happy and might even count down the days until the promise becomes a reality.

I imagine that Abram was excited when God gave him a promise in Genesis 12:1-3. Verse 2 says: “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.” At this time, Abram was childless, and God promised to make him into a great nation. Abram must have been excited! It’s one thing for people to make a promise because their promise is only as good as their resources. If they have one dollar worth of resources and they promise you five dollars, then you know that promise is only hot air. When God makes a promise, we can get excited because He created the world and holds the world in His hands.

God did not stop there! Verse 3 says: “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” We are grateful to God for this blessing because this blessing opened the door for us to become members of the family of God. Salvation has come to all through Jesus Christ, so all the families of the earth are blessed through Him. Thank God for including us because we are blessed through Abraham.

Thought for Today: Friend, thank God for salvation.
